I. The first step to becoming a delegate is to attend the local legislative district or county informational meetings to be held in December with times and locations to come. The Affirmative Action Committee will be making brief presentations at local meetings beginning in the Summer and Fall.
II. The best way to get important information is to become involved in the Democratic Party at the local level. Legislative District and County organizations want people to become involved. Precinct committeepersons are the grassroots activists of the Party. Inquire on how to be appointed.
III. File a statement of candidacy with the Arizona Democratic Party, 2910 North Central Avenue, Phoenix Arizona 85012. The statement of candidacy to run as a delegate at the District Caucuses will be made available in September, and must be hand delivered or postmarked by 5:00 pm on February 14, 2008.You must be a registered Democrat in the congressional district in which you are running at the time of your file. Statements of candidacy for delegates are available from the State Party, your local district or county chair or the representative of the presidential candidate whom you are pledged.
IV. The Presidential Preference Primary election will be held February 5, 2008. Get active with local presidential campaign organizers. Become involved in your community with friends, neighbors and campaign for you presidential preference.
V. Obtain a list of precinct committee people in your congressional district and request their vote at the district caucuses on March 15, 2008. Only those precinct committee people in your congressional district who support your presidential preference will be allowed to vote for you. Lists of precinct committee people are available from the Arizona Democratic Party.
VI. If at the district caucuses you are not elected as a national delegate, then you may still run for an at-large delegate or alternate position at the April 26, 2008 State Convention, if your presidential preference is allotted slots. Voting will be done by the State Committee of the Arizona Democratic Party and lists are available from the State Party. You may also run for a slot in the Pledged Party Leader and Elected Official category if you hold a position or elected office which qualifies you for that category.
