ADP Chair Alexis Tameron Calls on Brnovich to Drop DAPA Lawsuit

For immediate release May 19, 2015

PHOENIX – Arizona Democratic Party Chair Alexis Tameron called on Attorney General Mark Brnovich to drop the lawsuit currently blocking President Obama’s immigration reforms from taking place. May 19th was supposed to be the day when applications for DAPA, which would provide temporary relief from deportation for certain immigrants, were supposed to be accepted. However, a lawsuit from Republican-leaning states, including Arizona, has blocked implementation. So today, millions of immigrant families, faith leaders, public officials, Latino voters, and advocacy groups are holding a nationwide day of action to #Fight4DAPA (Deferred Action for Parents of Americans).

“For years, from Sheriff Joe Arpaio to SB 1070, extreme ideological Republicans have made our state a notorious epicenter of anti-immigrant policy in our country. As one of the states attorneys general opposing the President's immigration reforms designed to keep families together, Mr. Brnovich looks to continue that legacy. The Arizona Democratic Party calls on Mr. Brnovich to drop this shameful, partisan lawsuit.”

“Unfortunately, it doesn’t get much better at the presidential level for the GOP. Actions speak louder than words and not one – not Ted Cruz, not Jeb Bush, not Marco Rubio – supports these executive actions designed to keep families together and either oppose a path to citizenship or comprehensive immigration reform. Instead of disparaging hardworking immigrant families to curry favor with the extreme elements in their party, congressional Republicans and Democrats need to work together to fix our broken immigration system and value the contributions that immigrant families make to our society every day.”
