Statement from Arizona Democratic Party Chair Alexis Tameron:
“At this Saturday’s state committee meeting, the governing body of the Arizona Democratic Party voted to adopt two resolutions to the platform, one in favor of Proposition 205 and another in favor of Proposition 206, both passing by acclamation.
“Proposition 205, The Regulate Marijuana like Alcohol Initiative, fixes a lot of the issues prohibition has caused. By regulating marijuana for adults, our state will know where it is being sold, when, and to whom. Our resources will be better spent addressing serious crime, instead of damaging the lives of countless Arizonans, specifically people of color, as our government tries to prosecute them for possession. And lastly, regulation will bring in approximately $123 million in annual revenue for the state and localities, with more than $55 million dedicated to full-day kindergarten programs and aid to K-12 schools.
“Proposition 206, The Arizonans for Fair Wages and Healthy Families Initiative, has been long overdue. Our Democratic elected officials for years have been fighting to increase wages and better the lives of Arizonans, but as we all know Arizona working families keep falling farther and father behind because Arizona wages have not kept up with the increase in the cost of living. This proposition will benefit 779,000 Arizonans with an increase in the minimum wage, and close to 1 million Arizonans with access to earned sick days.
“As voters head to the polls this November, the Arizona Democratic Party will encourage them to support Proposition 205 and Proposition 206 as both will bring sensible benefits to the everyday lives of Arizonans.”
