Attorney General’s potty politics hurts Arizona’s children

Statement from Arizona Democratic Party Executive Director Sheila Healy:

“This lawsuit is tactless. Attorney General Brnovich should know better than to ignore the guidance of parents, school administrators, and teachers on how our schools should be inclusive, respectful, and safe as they can possibly be for our children.

“The federal government is simply following federal law. Under Title IV of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, discrimination based on a student’s gender is prohibited. Our law goes even further under Title IX of the Education Amendment of 1972, it bars schools from receiving public funding from discriminating on the basis of sex. Discrimination based on a student’s gender identity is discrimination based on sex. Why should states like Arizona not follow exhaustive guidelines?

“Attorney General Brnovich should focus on serious problems facing Arizona, like our Secretary of State breaking election laws, instead of bathroom politics.”
