Over 400 Letters Sent to Newspapers About Jan Brewer's Misuse of Taxpayer Funds
Thanks to you over 400 letters were sent to local newspapers about Secretary of State Jan Brewer’s use of taxpayer-funded ads to promote her own re-election campaign. She is challenged by Democratic candidate Israel Torres. You can visit his website at http://israelforarizona.com
Here are some examples of the letters that were sent:
Dear Ms. Brewer, I have been involved with various anti-Prop 200 campaigns as well as with urging counties NOT to purchase the voting machines your office has recommended. Needless to say, I am not a supporter of your tactics, especially when you add in your unwillingness to listen to common sense, and the way you have refused to address the voting problems in the Republican Primary in Legislative District 21 in the fall of 2004. I am shocked at your latest political campaign ads that are paid for by tax payer dollars. As you know, I am not the only one who finds these ads claiming to tell people how to vote, blatant ads for your re-election. I urge you to get these off the air immediately. You must stop disgracing the people and state of Arizona with your unethical behavior.Dawn Wyland

Dear Editor,Jan’s timing in her TV ads were so predictable. I am amazed that she couldn’t at least try to be inconspicuous in her release of her image on TV regarding ID at the polls to vote.
Wasn’t it the GOP who were up in arms when Napolitano had her image on billboards promoting our state’s tourism? And this was last year when she wasn’t even a candidate and they called it an unfair advantage.
Let’s see, Jan Brewer received millions of dollars in HAVA money to update our state’s voting equipment and voting systems to meet federal compliance since March of 2003. Part of the money was supposed to be used to promote and educate regarding the new voting equipment but Jan chose not to do so then. Shortly after, when the first elections that mandated implementation of the new rules of proposition 200 (ID at the polls) took place, Jan chose not to air public service announcements then either. That is, until now….
The airwaves are splattered with TV ads that promote her image to seem like a concerned politician vying to get reelected. I am outraged that she used HAVA money to do this rather than to ensure that we get proper voting equipment that would not be subject to legal challenges. For someone who participates in the Clean Elections system and supposedly knows the rules of the Clean Elections Act, she should know better than that. The Act was written so that it would level the playing field, for all candidates. I am glad that someone has already placed a complaint against her with the Clean Elections Commission. I hope they see as many of us already have that Jan Brewer thinks she is above the law and can get away with cheating the system.
