AZ Daily Star – Poll finds Napolitano with 2-to-1 lead over Munsil in gov’s race

A statewide poll released Tuesday found Democratic Gov. Janet Napolitano with a 2-to-1 lead over Republican challenger Len Munsil, with the incumbent making deep inroads among Republican voters and attracting support from the vast majority of independents surveyed.

The poll conducted by the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Arizona State University and KAET-TV found that Napolitano led Munsil 64 percent to 28 percent, with Libertarian Barry Hess receiving 2 percent and 6 percent undecided.

EV Tribune – Political ad flap dogs Montgomery

Allegations surrounding the making of a campaign ad continued to plague Republican attorney general candidate Bill Montgomery on Tuesday, as a witness stepped forward to say he spoke directly with an illegal immigrant used in the Sept. 12 filming.

Attorney General Terry Goddard, who is running for re-election, alleged in a complaint Friday to the Arizona Clean Elections Commission that Montgomery used illegal immigrants as actors in the ad production. But that information was based on the word of a Gilbert park ranger who heard the rumor from a camera man.

One of the main components of Montgomery’s platform is his pledge to crack down on illegal immigration. The ad depicts the arrest of several illegal immigrants.

In an interview with the Tribune and in a supplement to the complaint filed Tuesday, Gilbert resident David M. Waggoner said he watched the filming at Freestone Park and asked the Hispanic men who depicted the illegal immigrants if they were actors, but they didn’t speak English.

He then asked them in Spanish if they had immigration papers.

“I asked them, ‘Tiene papeles?’ “ Waggoner, 50, said. “Two of them said ‘no’ and the others looked away.”

Waggoner said the men told him they got $50 for their work.

Waggoner said he became enraged after seeing Montgomery’s tough stance on illegal immigration on his Web site. Waggoner said it drove him to contact Goddard’s campaign.

According to campaign filings, Montgomery paid $73,000 to Red Sea LLC, a Washington-based political consultant, to produce the ad.

A telephone call and email sent to the company went unanswered Tuesday.

Montgomery said he has asked the company for all the information on how they arranged the shoot.

He said he didn’t personally require anyone to fill out the federally required I-9 Form and didn’t know whether the Hispanic men filled out one for whoever hired them. The form requires an employer to verify the employment eligibility and identity of the employee.

“From a technical standpoint, I didn’t hire anybody,” Montgomery said.

Goddard’s complaint also alleges Montgomery used primary campaign funds on the general election.

  1. Personally I am enraged by the Arizona 1987 DPS investigation into Colorado City, the FLDS and a polygamist Police Chief. Deputy State Attorney Jameson headed that investigation, thus the state had ample evidence 19 years back and now 500 victims later. In December of 2000 Janet Napolitano, assigned Deputy State Attorney Leesa Morrison to a 30 day preliminary investigation, using me as their sole source or so I recorded. Such are REAL ISSUE, where incest and child rape occured one after another and 6 years later, my victims are no better off! The 1987 investigation by P.O.S.T. under Arizona Dept of Public Safety, yielded 87 court signed and recorded affidavits from the District Attorney themselves of Washington County Utah and the elected DA of Mohave County Arizona. There were 40 affidavits from law enforcement many on agency letterhead supporting the then Colorado City Police Chief charged with “breach of public safety” and for violating his “oath of office”. A few clues to why Napolitano failed to address this issue and why Terry Goddard hasn’t conquered it either in his 4 year term. Another 4 years and it will be the same story. I believe Montgomery might be different! I say this with 1000 emails back and forth with the Utah AG’s staff and as many with Arizona from 4 activist including myself.

So the democrats want to play trivia over who got hired in an ad, calling the affidats on Montgomery’s site, what fabrications? This is purely mud slinging at a time when there has been over 400 child victims abused in Colorado City. Welfare fraud, boys under 18 purged, girls under 16 married off and taken to Canada and what you want to argue about whom employed whom?

Arizona is stained by polygamist moving in and the pedophiles that will follow. Explain to me the 1987 INVESTIGATION by Arizona DPS and why NAPOLITANO needed me as her sole source for 30 days? Arizona had the 87 affidavits, 50 from public servants endorsing and illegal and abusive sect, much endorsed on letterhead, WAKE UP! This will be in the news for years to come, if 19 years was not enough, then whats your lame arguement for another 4 years? THE NEW BROOM SWEEPS CLEAN and its time to sweep out those that I have a paper trail on.

If the affidavits on Montgomery’s web page are inaccurate, go to those witnesses for an investigation, but otherwise this is petty politics, while children are abused in an administration that stays the status quo!
