Mitchell Earns Key Veterans Affairs Post
U.S. Rep. Harry E. Mitchell today earned a seat on the important House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, where he will fight for the more than 600,000 veterans who live in Arizona.
“I’m very proud to have earned a post on the Veterans Affairs Committee because we have a lot of work to do for our veterans,” said Mitchell. “In the past few years, when our veterans needed it most, Washington cut critical resources and turned away more than 260,000 veterans who applied to receive health care. It’s time to fix that.”
As a member of the committee, Mitchell will work to improve veterans’ health care and meet the needs of returning veterans, including providing mental health and traumatic brain injury services to those returning from Iraq and Afghanistan. He will also address the disability claims workload and work to ensure the seamless transition of servicemembers from active duty to civilian/veteran status.
Mitchell will be the only Arizonan on the committee.
