In a desperate backpedal from Trump, McCain flouts Senate ethics rules
McCain uses taxpayer-funded resources to save his political career
PHOENIX — In John McCain’s desperate -- and much too late -- attempt to abandon Donald Trump, McCain blatantly ran afoul of Senate ethics rules that prohibit taxpayer-funded resources from being used to campaign. It’s clear that after 33 years in Washington McCain doesn’t believe the rules apply to him.
Senator McCain questionably posted the same message to both his taxpayer-funded Senate office and his Wall Street donor-fueled U.S. Senate campaign websites.
“Arizonans deserve better than seeing their hard-earned tax dollars being used so John McCain can get a few more retweets,” said Communications Director Enrique Gutierrez. “No matter what John McCain does, his more than 60 endorsements of Trump speak louder than any taxpayer-funded attempt to promote his political career. Every day on the campaign trail, Senator McCain proves he’s no longer the campaign finance reformer he once claimed to be and his overly political attempt to distance himself from Trump after 60 endorsements proves he’s no longer a maverick or a straight talker.”
