Position: Communications Director

Responsibilities:

The Communications Director is the on the record spokesperson of the Arizona Democratic Party to reporters across the state. He or she works to develop positive relationships with members of the media on a daily basis to build a connection between the news organizations and the ADP. Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Drafting press releases, crafting messages & media monitoring.
  • He or she works to ensure that there is a cohesive message across the state. He or she does this by building relationships with county parties, campaigns, stakeholders and members of the press.
  • He or she maintains a strong hold on the political climate and active competitive races in his or her region to provide the rest of the communications team with an expert understanding.
  • This person works to place stories with reporters, assisting both the campaigns and the county parties in the state, and serving the greater goal of the ADP
  • This person tracks and responds to current and future GOP leaders through the planning of events. He or she pitches short and long-term stories to the media.

Requirements:

  • B.A. in Journalism, Communications, Political Science, Public Policy or related field preferred
  • 3 years of related experience 
  • Excellent writing and research skills
  • Experience with online communications and research tools
  • Social networking skills
  • Ability to work well on a team
  • Strong adherence to tight deadlines
  • Graphic design experience a strong plus
  • Spanish speakers preferred
  • Knowledge of media production and information dissemination
  • Mastery of the English language, both written and spoken
  • Familiarity with word processing, graphics, and video and website management software is important
