Tom Chabin to fill Kirkpatrick’s seat

Arizona Democratic Party welcomes energy, enthusiasm Chabin will bring to serving district

Flagstaff, Ariz. – The Arizona Democratic Party welcomes Tom Chabin as the newest member of the Arizona House of Representatives.

The Coconino County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously Tuesday to send Chabin to the Legislature. Chabin will fill the vacancy created when Rep. Ann Kirkpatrick resigned to run for the U.S. House of Representatives.

“I’m honored to be serving the residents northern Arizona,” Chabin said. “I will work hard with Gov. Janet Napolitano and the entire Democratic caucus to improve education for children, reform health care so it’s more affordable and make our border safer.”

“Tom has a strong record advocating for the people of Northern Arizona,” said Don Bivens, chairman of the Arizona Democratic Party. “We are proud that Tom will join the growing ranks of Democrats in the Legislature and continue to serve Northern Arizona.”

Chabin is a former member of the Coconino County Board of Supervisors (1992-2000). He also served on the Tuba City School Board.

“All of the people being considered were qualified candidates,” said former Rep. Kirkpatrick. “The selection was honest and transparent. I am looking forward to working with Tom to make a smooth transition.”
