Arizona Democrats urge Republicans to support kids instead of Bush

Democratic leaders are encouraging Republicans to choose kids’ health care over President Bush’s flawed priorities.

For members of Arizona’s Congressional delegation, there is still time to join the bipartisan majority who want to provide health care to millions of kids from working families.

President Bush vetoed the State Children’s Health Insurance Program, but the U.S. House of Representatives is scheduled to vote later this week to override that veto.

Arizona’s Congressional Democrats are strong supporters of kids’ health insurance. But several Republican delegates – Reps. John Shadegg, Trent Franks and Jeff Flake – are standing with President Bush to block health care for deserving kids.

“Shadegg, Franks and Flake are lining up with President Bush’s flawed priorities and against Arizona’s children,” said Maria Weeg, executive director of the Arizona Democratic Party. “The President’s heartless proposal doesn’t even cover the 6.6 million children already in the program, let alone the 4 million more kids from working families. They’re out of touch with this country and with the people they’re supposed to represent.”

Bipartisan majorities in both houses of Congress and nearly every governor in America, healthcare providers and patient advocates, rural and urban Americans, and citizens of all ages are united in strong support of our nation’s children.
