Democrats offer Shadegg even more help

The Arizona Democratic Party is offering more help to Rep. John Shadegg (R-Ariz.) after he expressed gratitude that they told voters he is opposed to a bipartisan economic stimulus package to give American families tax rebates.

“We’re thrilled that John Shadegg wants our help in publicizing his opposition to tax rebates,” said Emily Bittner, spokeswoman for the Arizona Democratic Party. “If he’s having a hard time getting booked on talk shows, I’m more than happy to make those calls for him. I’m sure that there will be a lot of folks listening closely: Certainly the 385 members of Congress who voted for this bipartisan economic stimulus plan. And probably the 700,000 people who live in his district and wouldn’t be getting a $600 rebate if Shadegg had his way.”

In a statement issued Thursday, Shadegg welcomed the Democrats’ work: “I want to thank the Arizona Democratic Party for educating voters about my vote against increasing the national debt and giving rebate checks to illegal aliens,” Shadegg said. http://www.politickeraz.com/-

But Shadegg’s opposition doesn’t make sense, according to fellow Republicans and his own voting history.

“In fact, I’ll bet that the Republican leaders in Congress are pretty curious why Shadegg says it’s about illegal immigration, when 385 other members understand that the bill is clear that illegal immigrants won’t get rebates,” Bittner said. “And I bet voters wonder why Shadegg rubber-stamped the Bush Administration’s out-of-control spending for years, but he had to draw the line at giving tax relief to families.”

If Shadegg accepts the offer, the Democratic Party asks that he express his appreciation through a contribution. Information is available on the party’s Web site, azdem.org .
