Arizona Democrats' statement on Shadegg's retirement

We’re thrilled that Shadegg is stepping down. The district deserves to be represented by someone who believes in restoring the middle class American dream, who believes that global warming is real and is a problem we can confront together, and who believes in being honest and straightforward with his constituents all the time. That person is Bob Lord.

After we caught him playing a shell game with his campaign contributions and filed an FEC complaint against him, we also believe that Shadegg knew just what hot water he’d gotten himself into.

Now, this comes four terms later than Shadegg had promised to retire, but I guess four terms is better than nothing. But given his his out-of-touch politics, like his vocal opposition to the tax rebates in the economic stimulus plan, and his hardline stance against giving Arizona children health care, this will be a welcome change for the district.
