Arizona Democratic Party allocates delegates

After the vote tally was certified today and with record turnout for a presidential preference election, the Arizona Democratic Party calculates that Sen. Hillary Clinton won 31 delegates and Sen. Barack Obama won 25 delegates.

“This historic Democratic turnout demonstrates just how hungry Arizonans – and Americans – are for a new direction,” said Maria Weeg, executive director of the Arizona Democratic Party. “The Democratic Party is going to fill that need – by stabilizing our economy, responsibly ending the war in Iraq and making sure all Americans have access to quality, affordable health care.”

More than 450,000 Democrats voted on Feb. 5, shattering previous turnout records. In the 2004 primary election, 239,000 Democrats voted.

“Democrats in Arizona are remarkably energized, and we believe we can put our state in the blue column in November,” Weeg said.
