Shadegg: Fish or cut bait

Rep. John Shadegg has had 14 years to decide if he wants to belong in Congress, and now he can’t make up his mind.

“Your conservative colleagues inside the Beltway may be lobbying you to run again as part of the D.C. establishment, but your constituents at home are waiting to hear whether you are interested in representing them at all,” said Emily Bittner, spokeswoman for the Arizona Democratic Party, speaking to Shadegg. “It’s a bad sign for them if you can’t even decide if you want to be their voice anymore.”

Given Shadegg’s recent voting history against tax rebates and health care for needy Arizona children, as well as his campaign finance problems with the Federal Election Commission, Democrats believe he ought to throw in the towel now, rather than face Bob Lord.

“Shadegg is already one of the most out-of-touch members of Congress,” Bittner said. “I’m really not surprised that he’s more interested in his political fortunes than the well-being of his district. This finally explains why he doesn’t understand the concerns of ordinary people.”
