Shadegg: Who do you serve?

Ten days after telling voters that he never intended to be a “professional politician,” Rep. John Shadegg flip-flopped today, deciding that he really does want to remain in Washington, D.C.

A chorus of ideological Washington insiders pressured Shadegg to stay in office, even though he said in a retirement letter that “it is time for me to (serve) in some other capacity.”

“It must be devastating when your representative tells you he’s through with you, and then he changes his mind based on flattery from D.C. insiders,” said Emily Bittner, a spokeswoman for the Arizona Democratic Party. “John Shadegg showed us yet again where his real priorities are: denying the existence of global warming, denying health care to Arizona children, denying tax rebates to families who need them – and denying the real reason he’s staying in Congress. I wonder, just who does he think he serves?”
