Bee should ask for Congressional ad to be pulled

Sen. Tim Bee should call on the groups that used taxpayer money to fund an ad for his campaign to pull the ad and return the money to students.

According to a story in the Arizona Daily Star, an ad that began running late last week was meant to boost Bee’s campaign for U.S. Congress. (http://www.azstarnet.com/sn/dailystar/233390.php)

“I don’t know who arranged it, but I know someone must have, because it was kind of on the agenda,” said Richard Connet, president of the Vail Education Association teachers union and a Republican who supports Bee for Congress.

“We all knew it was going to be used also for his run against Giffords,” Connet said.

“Even the 6-year-old kids who were featured prominently in the ad could tell that this is a campaign ad,” said Emily Bittner, spokeswoman for the Arizona Democratic Party. “To spend taxpayer dollars on it – taken from those very same kids – is a misuse of funds in absurd proportions.”

The ad, which featured footage of the Senate President, did not have a disclaimer about its backers, which is required by federal elections law.
