Democrats renew call for Renzi to step down
One year to the day after the FBI raided Republican Rep. Rick Renzi’s family business, the disgraced Congressman remains in office.
Arizona Democrats renewed their call for Renzi to step down, and challenged Arizona Republicans like Ken Bennett, Sydney Hay and John McCain to join them.
“This saga of corruption, influence-peddling and naked self-interest has gone on far too long,” said Maria Weeg, executive director of the Arizona Democratic Party. “Rick Renzi has given up all his committee assignments and is concentrating on his own defense. Isn’t it time that someone actually represent the people of the 1st Congressional District?”
Ken Bennett on Renzi: “I think he’s done a very good job for the 1st District of Arizona, and it’s unfortunate that he is leaving under the cloud of the investigation.” (link)
Sydney Hay on Renzi: “I want to demonstrate my commitment to maintaining the same level of availability that Congressman [Rick] Renzi provided to the citizens of eastern Arizona.” (link)
John McCain on Renzi: “Rick has represented the first district of Arizona with tenacity, honesty and integrity beyond reproach.” (link)
