Tim Bee continues to embrace extreme anti-Social Security activists

Anti-Social Security zealot Grover Norquist will hold a fundraiser for Tim Bee on Tuesday, marking the second time Bee has relied on a well-known ideologue for campaign cash.

Norquist, who has called Social Security “un-American,” is charging $250 a person to appear on behalf of Tim Bee at the University Club at 9 a.m. Tuesday. (http://www.weeklystandard.com/Content/Public/Articles/000/000/004/695jwmmb.asp?pg=2)

“Especially at a time when our economy is faltering, it’s shocking that Tim Bee would put our seniors at risk,” said Emily Bittner, spokeswoman for the Arizona Democratic Party. “The approach of these anti-Social Security zealots – and, apparently, Tim Bee’s approach – to Social Security is out of touch with this district. Voters here want to stabilize our economy and restore the basic promise of the American Dream to the middle class, not jeopardize seniors by giving our Social Security money to Wall Street.”

Steve Forbes, who raised money for Bee a few weeks ago, also believes in privatizing Social Security. Forbes has said the effects of the mortgage foreclosure crisis would be relatively small. (http://www.packetonline.com/articles/2008/04/11/the_princeton_packet/news/)

“The size of the losses … is something the economy can easily absorb,” Mr. Forbes said. “Americans own nearly $30 trillion in net financial assets. The net financial assets are worth more than the rest of the world’s put together.”

The fundraising trips of Norquist and Forbes come on the heels of a high-dollar dinner with Karl Rove, engineer of the Bush Administration’s plan to privatize Social Security.

“All of these men have made their mark on the issue of privatizing Social Security,” Bittner said. “Bee needs to come clean with the voters: what would he do with seniors’ retirement money?”
