Brewer Fails With Unproductive Hearing

As Time Runs Out, Governor Plays Games Instead of Getting Work Done

Governor Jan Brewer again demonstrated her inability to lead by opting today for a media stunt instead of sitting down to negotiate with the Legislature to solve Arizona’s budget crisis.

Brewer’s “Spinning Wheels Tour” continued with a hastily organized, clearly scripted parade of politcal allies to tout her proposal to raise taxes on the middle class. Brewer intentionally denied the public any opportunity for comment.

After months of doing nothing to release a budget, last week Governor Brewer finally issued a proposal that raises taxes on the middle class and fails to protect Arizona’s schools.

“Governor Brewer needs to work on the budget, not on her camera angles. Today’s media side show was just that”, said Arizona Democratic Party Chair Don Bivens. “The job of the Governor is to lead, to protect Arizona’s future by protecting Arizona’s schools, Arizona’s jobs, and Arizona’s middle class. Governor Brewer needs to get serious about doing the job of a Governor. Arizona is struggling and deserves a leader with substance and the will to lead.”
