On Teacher Appreciation Day, AZ House GOP votes NO on additional education funding

On Teacher Appreciation Day, we celebrate our state’s teachers and recognize their important contributions in making certain every student receives a quality education and an opportunity to get ahead.

Sadly Arizona Republican lawmakers don’t feel the same way.

While they’ve controlled our state government, they’ve flat out cut or underfunded Arizona’s education system.

Last year they cut $99 million from state universities.

$15 million from state community colleges.

$116 million from K-12 education.

And this month, Governor Doug Ducey is relying on Arizona voters to bail him out of the damage his anti-education cuts have had on K-12 and university funding.

Arizona Democratic Party Executive Director Sheila Healy issued the following statement:

“Teachers under Governor Ducey’s administration have received nothing but rotten apples for their hard work. On this Teacher Appreciation Day, while the GOP-led state legislature blocks additional money for education and votes against the Meyer Amendment, Arizona Democrats are fighting to invest more in our children’s education and future.”
