#AZGov: Doug Ducey Calls For ‘Expeditious’ Confirmation of Brett Kavanaugh
PHOENIX — Doug Ducey called for the Senate to move “expeditiously” to confirm Brett Kavanaugh shortly after the judge was announced as Donald Trump’s Supreme Court pick.
Ducey’s support for Kavanaugh came despite the fact that Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell had grave concerns about Kavanaugh’s past and his ability to make it through the confirmation process.
Kavanaugh last week was credibly accused of sexual assault in the 1980s, and now his confirmation looks in doubt as his accuser has offered to testify before the Senate Judiciary Committee.
Prior to that, questions were raised as to whether Kavanaugh had lied to the U.S. Senate under oath.
“Doug Ducey vouched for Brett Kavanaugh without raising any questions about his qualifications simply to cozy favor with his Washington, D.C. donors,” said Arizona Democratic Party communications director Les Braswell. “Doug Ducey will faithfully toe the party line: undermining women’s access to healthcare and underfunding Arizona’s public schools. Arizonans can’t afford four more years of a right-wing yes-man in the governor’s office.”
