GOP’S SABOTAGE OF HEALTHCARE LEADS TO 2%+ SPIKE IN UNINSURED RATE IN ARIZONA
PHOENIX – The Republican Party’s ongoing sabotage of the nation’s health system has caused long-term damage here in Arizona. As a new Gallup report shows, the uninsured rate rose more than two-percent in Arizona for 2017. This startling news is the result of repeated efforts by the GOP to undercut healthcare access from hardworking Arizonans and make care more expensive.
Kelli Ward, Rep. Martha McSally, and Joe Arpaio have led the charge with this healthcare sabotage in Arizona. All three supported the GOP tax law, which could raise premiums by as much as $1,500 and cuts Medicare in the state by $477 million. Further, all three candidates advocated for policies that threaten access to healthcare for the more than 400,000 people enrolled in AHCCCS and the 2.8 million Arizonans with a pre-existing condition.
Gallup: Uninsured Rate Rises in 17 States in 2017
BY: Dan Witters
“The uninsured rate rose by statistically significant margins in 17 states in 2017, the first time since the full implementation of the major mechanisms of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) in 2014 that any state had a rate increase.” […]
“Nationwide, the uninsured rate climbed to 12.2% by the final quarter of 2017, up 1.3 points since the low point of 10.9% measured in the last quarter of 2016…” […]
“Numerous high-profile attempts were made to repeal and replace the plan. Although none fully succeeded legislatively, the elimination of the ACA’s individual mandate penalty as a part of the tax reform plan signed into law in December 2017 could result in reducing participation in the insurance marketplace in future open enrollment periods.
President Donald Trump’s decision in October 2017 to end cost-sharing reduction payments could also potentially result in the uninsured rate rising further.”
