McSally Has Power to End Shutdown, Chooses Not To

PHOENIX — Amidst the longest government shutdown in U.S. history, Martha McSally is standing in the way of reopening the federal government and holding 56,000 Arizona federal workers hostage.

Since retaking the U.S. House, Democrats passed multiple appropriations bills to reopen the government and pay federal workers, including Border Patrol agents who are currently forced to work without pay. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, who hand-picked Martha McSally to represent Arizona in the U.S. Senate, has blocked those bills from being voted on in the Senate.

McSally has made no effort to persuade her Senate Republican colleagues to reopen the government. She has instead supported Republican efforts to keep the government closed until President Trump is given money to build a border wall — a wall that even Governor Doug Ducey says is unnecessary.

According to POLITICO, McSally and Ted Cruz are the only two border state senators who support keeping the government closed to build the border wall.
