Report: McSally Puts Party Over People On Anti-Health Care Judges

Report: McSally Votes With Her Party, Against Arizonans On Anti-Health Care Judges

“Arizona Republican Martha McSally is proving to be what she campaigned as last year: a party loyalist”

PHOENIX — According to a new report from the Arizona MirrorU.S. Sen. Martha McSally‘s voting record reveals that she’s an uncompromising “party loyalist” and not an independent leader who puts Arizona first.

A Mirror analysis found that McSally “has voted for every [Donald Trump] judicial nominee who has received an up-or-down vote on the Senate floor” — voting to give even the most anti-health care and anti-choice nominees lifetime appointments on the federal bench.

It’s no surprise, considering McSally’s record of voting with her party to gut pre-existing condition coverage protections. And after all, McSally owes her political career to Republican Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, who personally lobbied to have her appointed to the Senate after she lost the 2018 election — with the expectation that McSally would vote with him.

Key Points:

  • “Halfway through her first year in the U.S. Senate, Arizona Republican Martha McSally is proving to be what she campaigned as last year: a party loyalist”

  • “Since taking office in January, McSally […] has voted for every judicial nominee who has received an up-or-down vote on the Senate floor”

  • “That brings [McSally’s] total votes for President Trump’s nominees to district and circuit courts to 39, a streak that Democrats are already using against her in their effort to deny her a full term in 2020.”

  • “Democrats are also using [McSally’s] record on judges to paint her as a threat to health care. To do so, they are pointing to her votes for judges like Matthew Kacsmaryk, now on the Northern District Court of Texas; Michael Truncale of the Eastern District Court of Texas; and Howard Nielson of the District Court of Utah.”
